The
licensing process begins with your interest in acquiring a Limón
work. Once you contact us, we can provide a catalogue of dances
and a videotape of excerpts, as well as further information on specific
works. We will also discuss the suitability of the Limón
repertory for your performing group, considering style, size, and
other factors.
After these preliminary discussions, we will prepare a contract
and determine a schedule based on your needs and those of the reconstruction.
The amount of time it takes to stage a dance varies with the work
and the company or ensemble that is licensing it. Whenever possible,
the reconstructor will teach Limón Technique in conjunction
with the staging—this profoundly alters the dancers’
understanding of the work, and the performance quality.
The staging process draws upon archival films and videotapes, Labanotation
scores, audiotapes, photographs, original notes on the dances, and
above all, the reconstructors’ personal experiences with the
Limón tradition. We supply a tape of the music for rehearsal
purposes—you are responsible for making licensing arrangements.
You are also responsible for costumes and lighting, but the reconstructor,
as the representative of the Limón tradition and organization,
contributes artistic advice for the production. At the conclusion
of the licensing period, we request a videotape of your company or ensemble's performance for our archives.
