Limón Nominated for 2 Izzies

Carla Maxwell and the Limón Dance Company were nominated for two Isadora Duncan Awards (Izzies) for Best Ensemble Performance and Best Restaging/ Reconstruction of The Unsung.  Awards are bestowed in ten categories to those in the Bay Area who contribute to the advancement of the dance community. Congratulations!

 

New Institute Program for Fall 2005

Are you a college dance major who wants to experience a semester of Limón in New York City or an International student with a three month visa? Beginning September 2005, the Limón Institute will be offering the Fall Intensive Study Program that consists of daily technique classes, repertory workshops, special theory and practice sessions, a performance opportunity, and tickets to company performances.  Applicants should be at the advanced or intermediate-advanced level and have completed the equivalent of two years of college.  For more information - GO>>

Limón Leaps Into Spring!

The Limón Dance Company was busy this spring dancing their way across the Unites States

and Europe.  The season kicked-off in February with a successful

five city tour to sunny Florida with stops in Hollywood, Key West, Lakeland, Lake Worth, and Melbourne.  In March, the Company headed to Italy for performances in Reggio Calabria, Vicenza, Vittorio Veneto, Casal Maggiore, and Torino, which was followed by sold out performances in Hanover and Munich, Germany for Ballet Week 2005.  The Company then toured to four cities in Kansas, California, and Alaska which culminated with our return to Germany to perform at the Oldenburg Festival. Limón School in Residence at Peridance

On Saturday, February 28th, the José Limón Dance Foundation hosted a farewell party for friends and family in honor of the past decade at their home in SoHo.  After 10 successful years, the Company joined a long list of non-profits searching for affordable space to reduce overhead costs.  We are pleased to announce that the administrative offices are now located at 307 W. 38th Street at 8th Avenue and the Limón School is in residence with Peridance Center.  The entire faculty including Alan Danielson, Risa Steinberg, and Geraldine Cardiel, will continue to offer daily open technique classes in a great new location.  Guest teachers will include Betty Jones, Roxanne D'Orleans Juste, and Company Artistic Director, Carla Maxwell.  Peridance Center International Dance School is a preeminent facility which includes locker rooms, showers, and warm up area.  It is conveniently located at 123 4th Avenue at 12th Street.  For more information about the Limón class schedule GO>>


 

 

Summer at Limón

You can study Limón all         summer long! Join us at a workshop led by master teacher Risa Steinberg, at one of our two intensive programs   on opposite sides of the  country or at our ongoing classes at Peridance Center.

New York -  Risa Steinberg is back with her 2 week workshop in Limón technique, Repertory, and Teaching Methodology at Hunter College (July 11 - July 22). Special attention will be given to acquiring and polishing performance skills, applicable to any style.

East Coast  - The Limón Company, led by Artistic Director, Carla Maxwell, will be in residence at SUNY Brockport, NY (July 11 - 29). This three week workshop offers participants an opportunity for intensive training in Limón technique and repertory with an emphasis on individual work.

West Coast -  For the third year, Limón master teachers will lead a 2 week program (June 19 - July 1) at Mills College in Oakland, CA where Limón taught and created his first major work, Danzas Mexicanas  in 1939.
