Dear Friend:

Jose’s verbal eloquence was always a match for his choreographic genius: Art results from the impassioned human under the most rigorous discipline. That is the art I know about and love. José’s vision has become my vision as well. As a dancer in his company, and now as Artistic Director, I see the Limón Company and Institute as a home for José’s lifework and philosophy, and a source of inspiration for everyone—dancers, choreographers, students, audiences—that is touched by this tradition. For this is very much a living tradition. There is a Time, José’s beautiful evocation of the human experience, is renewed each time it is danced, whether by new company members or students learning the choreography in a workshop.

I believe our work is continually vibrant because it expresses the complexities of life. Our dances are about people, and the emotions and relationships we create through movement translate into a special connection with our audiences. We give intangibles—passion, drama, beauty—and in turn we rely upon the tangible financial support of our community. Behind every exceptional performance lie time-consuming, labor-intensive, and ultimately costly elements: training and rehearsing dancers, creating new choreography and original musical scores, designing and making costumes—these are the non-negotiable elements of an art form that reaches and inspires its audiences.

Your assistance is vital if we are to extend the vision that has animated our work for over fifty-five years. A gift in any amount makes a difference, and we express our appreciation by offering you special privileges: passes for free technique classes at the Limón Institute, discounts on merchandise, invitations to Company showings and rehearsals, and other benefits I hope make you feel that you too are part of this tradition. Membership is a priceless investment, and I invite you to join the Limón Family!
