Summer Highlights

"I learned how to open myself up and dance with everything around and inside of me."

"This experience gave me the confidence to reveal myself through dance."

            -St. Joseph Ballet Students

The Limon Company hit a highpoint amidst the series of residencies that spanned its summer season with a two-week workshop at St. Joseph Ballet, a multi-racial community-based dance center in Santa Ana, California.   With residency projects typically focused on dancers at the college and pre-professional level, the St. Joseph workshop was unique in that its participants ranged in age from 8 to 19 years old.  Students engaged in technique classes, lectures, film screenings and repertory work, which included sections from A Choreographic Offering and The Unsung.

Working with such world-renowned dancers, the young students found their experiences with the Limon Company to be embracing and inspiring.  They marveled at how two short weeks could instill an entirely new way of dancing in them.  Company members were equally moved and inspired as they watched students grow more confident and capable.  The Limon Company conitued its residency work with a three-week teaching and performing residency in Fredonia, New York followed by a week of performances in Colombia, South America.  They concluded their travels in October with a week-long residency and performances at Virginia Commonwealth University.

"What is so wonderful about residencies...is watching the students share all that they have learned with such enthusiasm and passion."
